Professional fitness model Johanna Sambucini (represented by Wilhelmina in New York City) came to Miami for the Fitness Universe competitions as well as some studio work.
We had to shoot some fitness photosets (a few outtakes are already posted on this blog) but also do some serious glamour work. We worked both in-studio as well as on-location – the above panoramic shot is at ‘the lagoon’ – a favorite secluded place to shoot.
Fitness models do some of the best glamour modeling work, and Johanna delivered on all counts. She also won the Model Universe section of the 2011 Fitness Universe competitions in while she was here for her photoshoots in Miami. In January 2012, Johanna won the Miss New York USA 2012 competition.

This post traces the development of the solution to have live images as the shoot progresses presented on an HD screen in my Miami-South Beach PAT Studio for the creative team (makeup, hair, wardrobe, art direction, etc.) to review – especially at the start or at checkpoints during a shoot.
The solution allows for real-time copies of in-camera images – from up to 5 simultaneous bodies or shooters – to be copied to a share point on the studio WiFi computer network, while all normal in-camera images and backups remain on the high speed in-camera data cards for normal post-production workflow, backup and redundancy.
A dedicated ThinkPad laptop computer is configured to monitor the share point and manipulate the queue of images received across the network, and uses an external Samsung large screen HD television as an extended monitor to display thumbnails or quick edits of images transmitted to the creative team.
The discussion below discusses the design, evolution, and implementation of the solution.
These are outtakes from an editorial photoset for V magazine. Our goal was to give the feeling of a fairy in the middle of a forest deep in the night. Complex lighting, fantastic makeup, hair and wardrobe, and wonderful talent all came together to produce these ethereal images.

Well, with models Brian Holowicki and the lovely Nema McKinzie having flown in from around the USA for a few days to shoot with me… I had to get busy!
With this talent to photograph I decided to pull together a team to take advantage of options and get an editorial photoset put together.
Woke up my neighbor Christian Molina early in the morning, then got Joey Rolon (another neighbor here on South Beach) onto the team as well. Christian is one of Miami’s top makeup and hair stylists and Joey is one of Miami’s own celebrity wardrobe stylists, especially with his atelier “Funky Sexy Couture”. With so much talent on-set and all of us free to do anything we wanted, well, we kind of went all the way.
As there were lots of Japanese themed activities going on in South Beach with the various Miami based Japanese organizations, everyone on the creative team had Japan on their minds. So we decided to ramp up, play along with the Tokyo fashion mood and put together a Harajuku themed fashion shoot.
You can have a look at some results from a long day of work, both in-studio and on-location here in Miami-South Beach.

With my recent move to Miami, I have had to add Fitness as a genre to my portfolio.
Fortunately, I met Sofia Venanzetti – an Italian fitness expert from Milano in my first days in the city. Already published in fitness and health magazines such as Oxygen, we did a lot of work together to start to build my credentials in the fitness area.
We decided to take advantage of a beautiful day and shoot a fitness series on Government Cut – the waterway where the cruise ships arrive and depart from the port of Miami.
